Director of Shared Services at Pulse NG
Pulse.ng is Nigeria’s popular news platform online highlighting the entertainment, style, and news that are part of and the West African DNA.The Director of Shared Services will lead and oversee core support functions including Human Resources, Finance, Administration, Procurement, IT and Facilities to ensure operational excellence across the organization. This role requires a strategic leader with a strong work culture, people management capabilities, robust financial acumen and the ability to cultivate a high-performance. The Director will drive organizational culture, efficiency, standardize processes, improve service delivery and ensure seamless coordination across departments.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & People Management
Lead, coach and develop multidisciplinary teams supporting a fast-paced media environment.
Build a high-performance, collaborative culture aligned with the brand’s creative and commercial goals.
Manage workforce planning to meet the evolving needs of editorial, production, sales, marketing and content teams.
Strategic Operations & Shared Services Optimisation
Develop and execute a shared services strategy that supports digital media workflows, content pipelines and multi-platform delivery.
Strengthen operational processes to improve speed, coordination, and quality across all departments.
Financial Oversight & Budget Management
Oversee budgeting, financial planning, cost control and expenditure tracking for shared services.
Partner with Finance to ensure accurate reporting, payroll, compliance with taxes/statutory obligations, and audit readiness.
Optimize operating costs without affecting production quality or team performance.
Support long-term financial planning in line with the media company’s growth trajectory.
Culture Building & Organizational Development
Collaborate with the HR department to foster a culture that blends creativity, accountability and operational excellence.
Champion employee engagement, diversity and values-driven culture across editorial and non-editorial teams.
Lead change management initiatives that support digital transformation, new content strategies, and operational restructuring.
Build trust and transparency across departments through strong communication and culture-building programs.
Risk Management, Legal & Compliance
Ensure compliance with labour laws, media regulations, copyright policies and internal governance.
Strengthen internal controls, mitigate risks and ensure adherence to ethical practices across the organization.
Work with Legal and Compliance teams to ensure safe, fair and compliant operations.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Serve as the operational bridge between leadership, content teams and support departments.
Facilitate seamless communication, resource allocation and coordination across the media ecosystem.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Human Resources, Media Management or a related field.
7+ years of progressive leadership experience in shared services, HR, operations, or finance preferably within media, digital content communications or creative industries.
Strong people management background with experience leading multi-functional teams.
Solid financial acumen, including budgeting, forecasting and cost management.
Demonstrated experience in culture building within creative or high-paced environments.
Understanding of media workflows, content production cycles and digital operations is a strong advantage.
Excellent communication, stakeholder management and problem-solving abilities.
