The Head of Human Resources is responsible for providing strategic leadership and direction to the HR function, ensuring that human capital initiatives align with the overall business objectives.
The role focuses on workforce planning, organizational development, talent management, employee engagement, and compliance with labour laws, while fostering a high-performance culture across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership:
Develop and execute HR strategies that support business goals and growth.
Partner with senior leadership to provide guidance on people-related strategies and organizational design.
Lead change management initiatives to support business transformation.
Talent Acquisition & Management:
Oversee recruitment of top talent across all business units.
Design succession planning and career development frameworks.
Implement retention strategies for critical and high-potential employees.
Performance & Rewards:
Develop and oversee performance management systems linked to KPIs.
Ensure competitive and equitable compensation, benefits, and reward systems.
Promote a performance-driven culture across all departments.
Employee Engagement & Culture:
Drive initiatives that promote employee satisfaction, motivation, and inclusion.
Act as a trusted advisor and mediator in employee relations matters.
Build and maintain a strong employer brand.
HR Policy & Compliance:
Develop, review, and enforce HR policies and procedures.
Ensure compliance with Nigerian labour laws, health and safety, and ethical standards.
Oversee HR audits, risk management, and workplace investigations.
HR Operations & Analytics:
Lead HR operations including payroll, employee records, and HRIS systems.
Utilize HR metrics and analytics to inform decisions and report to executive leadership.
Manage the HR department budget and resources effectively.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field; Master’s degree (MBA/HRM) preferred.
Professional HR certification (CIPM, SHRM, CIPD, CIHRSM) is required.
Minimum of 15 years of progressive HR experience, with at least 10 years in a senior management role.
Proven experience leading HR strategy in a multi-business or group setting.
Strong understanding of Nigerian labour law and HR best practices.
