With 151 member states, a further 12 states holding observer status and offices in over 100 countries, IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.
IOM works to help ensure the orderly and humane management of migration, to promote international cooperation on migration issues, to assist in the search for practical solutions to migration problems and to provide humanitarian assistance to migrants in need, including refugees and internally displaced people.
The IOM Constitution recognizes the link between migration and economic, social and cultural development, as well as to the right of freedom of movement.
IOM works in the four broad areas of migration management:
Migration and development
Facilitating migration
Regulating migration
Forced migration.
IOM activities that cut across these areas include the promotion of international migration law, policy debate and guidance, protection of migrants’ rights, migration health and the gender dimension of migration.
IOM Nigeria commenced activities in 2001 and focused its interventions on counter trafficking activities, migration issues, return and reintegration of stranded migrants especially to Liberia, and Voluntary Returns from abroad.Job Identification: 16892
Context
Working under the overall supervision of the Protection/MHPSS Programme Manager and closely working with the Project Coordinator, TRD and other relevant colleagues, the successful candidate will be responsible for assisting with the reintegration of Protection and MHPSS services into durable solutions activities implemented in Yobe State
Responsibilities
The successful candidate shall perform the following tasks and responsibilities:
Support the overall implementation of the SIDPIN Project in Yobe State.
Assist the Programme Manager in the implementation of the project activities, including coordination, reporting, logistics support, and implementation of the project activities.
Assist the Programme manager in maintaining a data collection, analysis mechanisms, and share relevant information mainly from records and reports and prepares periodic and ad-hoc reports on program and project activities
Support technical monitoring of all the teams in the accessible areas, including report writing, supervision, training, and coordination sessions with each team.
Facilitate weekly visits, collecting and compiling reports from the psychosocial support teams in Yobe and sometimes Maiduguri. Track their activities and provide timely support.
Liaise with relevant governmental, non-governmental (NGOs), international organizations as well as other relevant stakeholders on issues related to MHPSS.
Monitor project activities including those implemented by the psychosocial mobile teams by reviewing a variety of records, including control of plans, progress reports, and project inputs, identify issues and propose adjustments as necessary.
Organize missions, forums, meetings, workshops, trainings and other events within the framework of the project in coordination with the project manager, project coordinator, International Expert network, and other key partners.
Prepare informal translation of technical documents from English into Hausa, Fulfulbe, and vice-versa, if needed.
Organize data and information, prepare and maintain records, document and control plans for the monitoring and evaluation of the project implementation
Coordinate Visibility and Communication activities related to the project.
Undertake duty travel to very challenging areas when necessary.
Perform such other duties as may be assigned
Qualifications
Education:
High School Diploma with five years of related experience or,
Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences, Education, and other human development, or a related field with three years of related experience
Experience:
Minimum five (5) years relevant experience in a similar position, preferably within the United Nations and the International Humanitarian Field
The ability to effectively communicate with victims of trafficking.
The ability to adapt and work under pressure and strong interpersonal skills.
The ability to facilitate group psychosocial activities with victims of trafficking and caregivers with an understanding of group dynamics and processes.
A learning attitude and willingness to increase skills and knowledge in the protection of victims.
Skills:
Personal qualities: Team player, flexible, network-builder, able to handle pressure well.
Strong computer skills on MS word, Excel
Languages:
For all applicants, fluency in English is required (oral and written), and knowledge of the local language is an advantage
IOM’s official languages are English, French and Spanish.
