About the Team

The Portability Team sits within the Account Management product group, which builds products that help our upmarket customers get the most out of HubSpot. Our mission is simple but ambitious: make “copy anything, anywhere” simple, reliable, and self-serve.

Portability already powers critical HubSpot experiences like Sandboxes and Multi-Account Asset Copier, enabling customers to seamlessly move lists, workflows, marketing emails, and other assets across HubSpot Instances (portals). But this is just the beginning. The space is full of opportunities and complex engineering challenges—from supporting an ever-growing variety of asset types to expanding into entirely new use cases. Tackling these problems means working on distributed systems at scale, building resilient frameworks, and creating tools that deliver leverage for multiple teams and millions of customers.

About the Role

As a Staff Technical Lead on the Portability Team, you will be a player-coach, leading a dedicated team of approximately 3–5 engineers. You are, first and foremost, a skilled and passionate engineer who thrives on building and creating.

This role offers a unique blend of hands-on contribution (about 75% of your time) and leadership responsibilities (about 25%). You’ll stay deeply involved in coding and design while guiding your team in building high-quality, scalable, and reliable systems. You’ll also collaborate cross-functionally to ensure the portability platform not only meets technical standards but also drives meaningful impact for our customers and HubSpot’s growth.

  • Have years of experience consistently delivering high-value, high-impact, cross-team projects. Staff and Principal Engineers are the most senior individual contributors at HubSpot. They continually raise the bar for the engineering organization and help drive product vision forward through architectural contributions coupled with consistent, hands-on coding.
  • Have a thirst for technical challenges implemented within secure, compliant systems. We leverage technologies such as Java, HBase, Vitess, Kafka, GraphQL and Dropwizard. We’re not necessarily looking for someone who is an expert in a specific technology, but someone who is well-versed in engineering principles and eager to leverage them when running toward the problems that we face.
  • Stay deeply hands-on in technical work while also providing strategic direction, mentoring engineers, and collaborating cross-functionally with stakeholders.
  • Have a history of building solutions with outsized organizational and business impact, raising the bar for technical excellence.
  • Demonstrate pragmatic decision-making and problem-solving abilities with a bias for fixing problems through technology rather than process.
  • Can guide teams beyond the status quo; we need engineers who lead us beyond what we have, and towards what we can build, while building a shared notion of how to get there.

Cash compensation range: 227400-363800 USD Annually


Pay & Benefits

The cash compensation below includes base salary, on-target commission for employees in eligible roles, and annual bonus targets under HubSpot’s bonus plan for eligible roles. In addition to cash compensation, some roles are eligible to participate in HubSpot’s equity plan to receive restricted stock units (RSUs). Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay. Individual compensation packages are tailored to your skills, experience, qualifications, and other job-related reasons.
